National Curriculum Aims - Key Stage 1
Pupils should develop fundamental movement skills, become increasingly competent and confident and access a broad range of opportunities toextend their agility, balance and coordination, individually and with others. They should be able to engage in competitive both against self and againstothers) and co-operative physical activities, in a range of increasingly challenging situations.
Pupils should be taught to:
- Master basic movements including running, jumping, throwing and catching, as well as developing balance, agility and co-ordination, and begin to apply these in a range of activities
- Participate in team games, developing simple tactics for attacking and defending
- Perform dances using simple movement patterns.
By the end of Year 1 pupils should be able to consistently display the following and by the end of Year 2 should master:

- How to contribute key words to a theme related mind map
- How to translate words/ideas into theme related shapes, movements and actions
- That we need to look forwards to safely move around in space
- That we need to control our speed to ensure safety
- How to turn what I see into ways of moving
- How to listen to other people’s ideas and vocalise my own thoughts
- How to turn what I read/hear into ways of moving

- Use my body and create theme related shapes, movements and actions
- Use my body to express simple theme related shapes, movements and feelings
- Show good listening skills
- Travel safely and creatively in space
- Show different levels when I travel
- Communicate effectively with a partner
- Use poems to create shapes, movements and actions

- Grow by showing creativity and understanding how to be creative in PE
