Rules of End Ball

End Ball

Objective:
Score points by passing the ball to a teammate standing in your team’s end zone.

Set Up

  • Mark a rectangular court with cones (about basketball half-court size for younger; full size for older).

  • Create a 1–2 m “end zone” at each end.

  • Teams: 5–8 players each.

  • One ball (soft foam ball or similar).

Rules

  1. Starting Play

    • Begin with a throw from the centre line.

    • After a point is scored, the non-scoring team starts with the ball from centre.

  2. Movement with the Ball

    • No running with the ball.

    • Pivot foot must stay planted (like basketball).

  3. Passing

    • Ball must be passed to move it up the court.

    • Overhead, chest, or bounce passes allowed.

  4. Scoring

    • A point is scored when a teammate catches the ball inside the end zone.

    • The end-zone player can move freely inside the zone.

  5. Defending

    • No physical contact.

    • Stay at least 1 m away from the ball carrier.

    • Interceptions and blocking passes are allowed.

  6. Turnovers

    • Dropped ball

    • Interception

    • Stepping out of bounds

    • Breaking the movement rule

  7. Game Length

    • Play in two 5–8 minute halves, or first to a set score (e.g., 10 points).

PE Teacher Tips

  • Mix abilities so stronger players pass to beginners.

  • Switch end-zone players regularly so everyone gets a scoring chance.

  • Use larger zones or remove the movement restriction for younger kids to keep play flowing.

  • For older/more advanced classes, add a 3-pass minimum before scoring.
