Fundamental Movement Skills Pathway

The Fundamental Movement Skills Pathway is a comprehensive EYFS PE scheme of work and movement skills tracking tool designed to support children’s physical development from an early age.

Through engaging, progressive activities, teachers can develop and assess essential skills such as running, jumping, throwing, catching, balancing and coordination, while identifying areas where individual children may need additional support.

The pathway provides a clear and consistent approach to teaching, monitoring and evidencing fundamental movement skills across EYFS.

The Fundamental Movement Skills Pathway gives EYFS teachers a clear and progressive approach to developing children’s physical literacy. Combining structured PE lesson plans with an easy-to-use tracking system, it supports the teaching and assessment of core skills including balance, coordination, running, jumping, throwing and catching.

Designed to simplify planning and assessment, the pathway helps teachers monitor progress, identify gaps in development and provide targeted support where needed. It offers a consistent way to build confidence, competence and strong foundations for future learning in PE.

Physical Development in EYFS

The Fundamental Movement Skills Pathway works alongside the PE Passport Early Years schemes of work, assessment and evidence tools to provide a complete approach to physical development in EYFS. Teachers can deliver progressive, age-appropriate activities, assess children’s fundamental movement skills and record photo or video evidence of learning and achievement.

By bringing planning, assessment, evidence and progress tracking together in one platform, PE Passport helps practitioners identify individual strengths, recognise areas requiring additional support and demonstrate each child’s development in skills such as running, jumping, balancing, throwing, catching and coordination.
