Fundamental Movement Skills Tracker

Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS) in primary schools form the foundation of physical literacy, helping children develop essential skills such as running, jumping, throwing, catching, balancing, and coordination.

A high-quality FMS programme in primary PE should include structured progression, age-appropriate activities, skill-based assessment, and opportunities for repetition and mastery to support long-term development.

Incorporating our Fundamental Movement Skills tracker is a highly effective way for schools to monitor pupil progress, identify gaps, and personalise learning. By using our digital tracking system, teachers can record performance over time, generate clear data insights, and demonstrate measurable impact in primary PE, ensuring every child builds confidence and competence in movement.

Key Categories of Fundamental Movement Skills:

  • Locomotor Skills: Movements that transport the body from one place to another, including running, jumping, hopping, skipping, galloping, leaping, and sliding.
  • Object Control (Manipulative) Skills: Actions involving controlling or manipulating objects, such as throwing, catching, kicking, striking (e.g., with a bat or hand), and dribbling
  • Stability/Balance Skills: Movements that require controlling the body against gravity, such as balancing, bending, twisting, stretching, and turning.

Mr Jones
PE Lead, Lane End Primary
As PE lead I am now confident that PE delivery is consistent across the whole school. The PE Passport scheme of work is structured to ensure any member of staff can pick it up and deliver lessons.
Mrs Hardacre
St Mark’s CofE
My staff were fearful of teaching PE as we have had outside providers for a number of years. Dance and Gymnastics was a particular area of worry but using the PE Passport lesson plans especially the videos has made this much easier.
